First deliveries for the 2008 year: 12th April has been completed - 36 loads were delivered from our current list of 105 recipients. Next delivery on the 26th April. Our club has delivered firewood to a list we maintain of deserving elderly Tokoroa residents for many years. Originally the Tokoroa Box factory (CHH) was able to donate us off-cuts from their operations and we delivered these to members on our list. With the closure of that factory we were without a wood source until CHH Forests again came to our aid donating many truck loads of Douglas Fir logs to our cause. Thanks to the initial generosity of Hancocks following the sale of the forest by CHH to Hancocks we were able to continue with some deliveries in early 2007 however, without further dry wood we have been unable to deliver anything further this year. We now have additional arrangements with Hancock and our storage shed is now nearly full of wet wood that will be dry by next year's deliveries. We made our usual arrangements with the PD personnel of the Dept of Justice who have provided workers who are cutting and splitting this for us. A job they perform enthusiastically and well. Our members will again provide the delivery vehicles and manpower. This will resume as a particularly good example of win win win next year. Our list is continually updated from information that comes in to us from members of the public. Our recipients are typically elderly, have limited help available to them from family members, and have limited income. Our resources are also limited, but if you know of someone who fits this description you should submit their name and details to us and we will try to accommodate them as well. In a normal year we have managed to deliver two loads of wood to all who are on our list.
