Highlight Ride:

2010 Midwinter, Okoroire Ride:

Magnificent weather again and a great ride.  Thanks to all for coming.

The first home in the main ride was Jonathan Atkinson who completed at a speed of 38.8km/hr.  A very creditable ride that you may like to compare with the bit of history below.  I would note also that the first 34 riders all exceeded 38 km/hr and that 59 riders got back in under 2 hours - that's a strong field.

Sadly the best results we can provide at this point have had to be manually rebuilt again this year after another power loss at a critical time.  We had a similar problem last year at the hall.  Hopefully we will have more luck at the pub next year!  We would appreciate any help you can offer to improve the accuracy - use the email contact on this web site.  We will re-publish a revised result list next week that will include the corrections we receive back from you.

NOTES:

As a matter of privacy please note that you can change your entry on our database at any time - update with a new address, remove your name or add your name simply by an email to the above email link (ie Ride Database Change email address).  We routinely prune this database to include riders who have ridden in the previous 3 years.  If you wish to retain your place in spite of not having ridden recently, again simply let us know, and your contact details will be renewed for a further 3 years.

Previous Rides:

2010 Forest Lakes Rd:

We had excellent weather for the ride - cool and fine, but with a bit of a wind to contend with.  We used the lakes loop on the 70k ride for the first time and from all the feedback we got, you all liked it as much as we did.  It offers a good range of scenery to hold the interest.  The ride results are here:  Results - Lakes Loop 2010

Of special mention must be Wayne McConachy, a very strong rider from Taupo who has made the strongest ride we have seen on any ride we have timed, achieving  37.28 km/hr.  That is quick given the Cashmore hill.  He finished over 2 minutes in front of the second rider, Matt Douglas.  Dennis Jones led the 35km riders home with a very creditable average speed of 29 km/hr.

The ride attracted 216 riders this year, and the main interest was with the 70km ride indicating the riders preference for a loop ride.  We are hoping to arrange a good loop too for the 35km ride next year - send in your feedback.

Our Charity this year is the Salvation Army and we were able to donate $4,000 to them (topped up by the club a bit).  A great resut.

A Note:  I implied, above, that Wayne had achieved the fastest speed we had recorded.  Well actually after I have done some research into our database that is not correct - hence this amendment.  For you history buffs you may be interested that Wayne has ridden in two rides we have timed - the second one being the Okoroire mid winter ride in 2007 when he rode  to 4th place (out of a 413 rider field) at an average speed of 37.39 km/hr - marginally quicker than his ride on Sunday (but remember the hills!).

Well if he got 4th who won?  That was Nik Eliadis also from Taupo then, and he won at a speed of 37.77km/hr.  OK, then, what have we timed Nik at?  Nik has also ridden in two rides we have timed, the second of these being the 2006 Okoroire mid-winter where he won again against a field of 536 riders at a speed of 39.01 km/hr.

I leave it to those of you who have ridden both rides to judge who has made the stronger ride - Wayne at 37.28 on our new loop, or Nik on the Okoroire circuit at 39.01?   (We have since lost track of Nik with correspondence to him being returned).  Perhaps I was correct in my first statement, perhaps Wayne has made our strongest ride?

2009 Okoroire Mid Winter Fun Ride:

At last good weather!  After two years of "submarine rides" the weather was near perfect.  Results are here:  ResultsMW09_1.pdf.

2009 Forest Fun Ride:

The ride was held in near perfect riding weather on the 1st March 2009.   Ride results can be downloaded here:  ResultsFR09.  Our charity this year, was the South Waikato Hospice Trust and we raised over $3,000 for them from the ride alone.  Lions added a bit more raised from other sources and we were able to provide them with 2 beds and mattresses worth over $10,000.  The good work this organisation does is well understood.  We all hope we never need them, but we thank you for helping make the life of those who do a little easier.  For a small ride like ours we are happy with the result.  Our photographer was away this year - so there are no photos in the gallery.
